((I'd been pondering the idea of making my LJ friends-only for a while now, but this bunch of ridiculous Warriors For Innocence twinks has really just made it seem a better idea all round. Plus, this way I can make a shiny banner to put on my profile to proclaim as much.

Gee, WFI, see how effective your tactics are?))

So, to condense all the horrified posts I've seen this morning into one sentence, am I right in saying "Crazed vigilantes are deleting journals with any hint of deviant sexual content, so we're all doomed"?

All I've heard so far is a lot of cryptic CAPITALIZED panic.

And what's this about having to delete any suspicious-looking icons?

[identity profile] apprentice-lurk.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems to be something along these lines - a vigilante group are wandering LJ to find any journal or community with 'suspicious'-looking interests or icons. They then report it to LJ, who legally have no choice but to suspend or delete the accounts since they've been pointed out to them as being potentially Bad. To those with RP journals, specifically those who play the more interesting fandoms or villains, this means you're potentially going to lose years of work and joint writing because of some twinks who can't tell fantasy from reality.

And what's this about having to delete any suspicious-looking icons?

Yeah, they're trawling the interests lists looking for something to pounce on, and icons are another thing they're looking at. Instead of, y'know, actually reading any disclaimers or journal snippets to work out whether it's IC or OOC.

[identity profile] spyderfyngers.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what IC or OOC is. I'm not really up on fandom lingo. However, the Harry Potter folk are screwed, really, aren't they?

I'd like to know what they're defining as Bad. Most of it seems fair enough, like rape and pedophilia, but they seem to be blurring some boundaries when it comes to fiction. These Perverted Justice people seem an interesting bunch.

Of course, I refuse to relinquish my sodomy icon. I might have to change the 'fun for all the family' tag, however...

[identity profile] apprentice-lurk.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
...Oops. Sorry. Ic = in character, OOC - out of character. In other words, knowing when someone is pretending to be an evil supervillain or not. ¬¬

Someone's RP journal was deleted for having 'beating people up' as an interest. The journal had a huge stonking disclaimer saying that it was for a fictional villain, for crying out loud. *headdesks* They don't seem to read things through properly before running to tell tales.

...Ahem. Yes, just to be on the safe side, it might be a good idea. ^_^;

[identity profile] ravenology.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The other thing that irks me about this is that, because they're searching by interests, they've also managed to get journals/communities deleted whose purpose had been supporting survivors of the very crimes they are trying to prevent.

This? Is what we call "sweeping the innocent up with the guilty". Or, in more Ravenological terms, "fuckwitted stupidity".

[identity profile] spyderfyngers.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh. Not even a proper witchhunt. Where are the thumbscrews, I ask you? The snazzy hats? When I come after the heretics, people will know about it.

As grimly amusing as it is, I will be intensely annoyed if anything of mine is pounced upon. Perhaps 'my inner victorian prostitute' and 'victorian pretty boys' are not good interests to have, currently? Even if I am the only one of LJ who lists them.

DISCLAIMER: And by 'boys', I mean ADULTS boys. Sheesh.

[identity profile] apprentice-lurk.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there's certainly plenty of noise and metaphorical torch-murning mobs about over this. To be perfectly honest, I'd much prefer your terms of witchhuntery, if only because I doubt you'd go after the more genial and friendly perverts amongst us just to make a point...

It sounds more like a battle cry than anything, but the reasoning behind this (http://community.livejournal.com/innocence_jihad/3161.html?style=mine) seems pretty sound to me. Can't catch what you can't see, right?

[identity profile] spyderfyngers.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas. I don't want to nuke my interests. However, if people are being executed for listing 'beating people up' in a fictional sense, I may have to make some adjustments.

...

Okay, adjustments made. But dammit all, I'm going to come up with some truly horrible historical references to list once all this rubbish dies down.

And now I'm having a bath. A bath of defiance. Yes.

[identity profile] spyderfyngers.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Dead Poet Diaries is doomed if and when they find it. I'm not going to change the interests. If anything, I'll be pleased if they delete it. It'll cut certain ties and I can make a new, funnier version.

...as long as they don't assume I'm the mastermind behind the interests, that is.

[identity profile] sistermorticia.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that doesn't bode well for the Wonderland Diary either... :o(

LOL, and Tim's journal will be nuked for sure! ;o) I can't remember what he put as his interests, but I'll warn him that it may not be around by the time he comes back from Whereverthehellheis.

So much for the freedom of the internet and the simple pleasures of writing fantasy and fandom *sigh*

[identity profile] spyderfyngers.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Billy is doomed too. Poor wee thing.

[identity profile] sistermorticia.livejournal.com 2007-05-30 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
How is Billyboy? I miss him!

I found this:

http://jamoche.livejournal.com/29516.html

And IC means "in character"; when you're playing a character and acting as they would. OOC means "Out Of Character"; when you are your normal self instead of pretending to be a giant alien death robot (or whatever, depending on fandom).
